Apple Loop: iPhone 6S Prices, Apple TV Misses 'Top Gear', New iPhone Leaks Bring Bad News
Taking a look back at another week of news from Cupertino, this week’s Apple Loop includes pricing details on the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, three pieces of bad news from the iPhone leaks, a thicker design for the updated hardware, rumors of the new iPad Pro being revealed, the unique selling point of the Apple TV, Apple’s attempt to buy ‘Top Gear’, the top iOS apps of all time, the future of Apple Music, and the weirdest way to predict the September 9th news.
Apple Loop is here to remind you of a few of the very many discussions that have happened around Apple over the last seven days (and you can read our weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes).
Meet The New Price… Same As The Old Price!
We know when the new iPhones are due to be announced (Wednesday September 9th), we know when the pre-orders are likely to commence (Friday September 11th), and when the handsets are going to go on sale (Friday September 18th). All that remains from the important consumer details is the price. Over to Jay McGregor who’s been sleuthing to find out how much sticker shock there is going to be:
The leak comes from sources speaking to Dutch blog TechTastic, which suggests that – surprise, surprise – there’s no change in price from the iPhone 6. The blog reveals European prices for the iPhone 6S, which are the same as they were last year. So it’s entirely likely that the US launch price will remain the same as 2014’s model.
Storage options are also expected to be the same as last year too, quashing rumours that Apple had plans to cut the 16GB variation.
Prices and storage options are said to be: iPhone 6S – 16GB/64GB/128GB ($649/$749/$849).
And for the iPhone 6 Plus: iPhone 6S Plus – 16GB/64GB/128GB ($749/$849/$949)
A similar pricing structure to previous years should not come as a shock to keen Apple watchers. Bargain hunters will be more interested in what happens price-wise to the year-old iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and if the iPhone 5S will comfortably fill the bottom ‘free with subsidy’ spot. We’ll find out on Wednesday.
